Capacity Building

Strengthening Nonprofits to Maximize Community Impact

Pottstown Regional Community Foundation (PRCF) empowers nonprofits across western Montgomery County, northern Chester County, and eastern Berks County with the tools and knowledge to thrive. Through comprehensive capacity building resources, we help organizations build stronger operations, improve services, and amplify their lasting impact in the greater Pottstown region.

Investing Beyond Grant Dollars

PRCF recognizes that strategic funding alone is not enough. Healthy communities depend on healthy organizations. By investing in nonprofit capacity building, we ensure that grantees have access to high-quality support in areas like governance, leadership, operations, and evaluation. This commitment equips nonprofits to respond to challenges, pursue growth opportunities, and serve their communities more effectively.

Signature Resources

Catchafire

PRCF provides all active grantees with access to Catchafire, a national platform that matches nonprofits with skilled volunteers. Organizations can post projects for graphic design, fundraising plans, HR policies, and more. Volunteers are typically matched within 48 hours, with projects often completed in just weeks. This resource saves grantees thousands of dollars while delivering expert support.

Hello Insight

For youth-serving organizations, PRCF offers Hello Insight at no cost. This research-based tool tracks social-emotional learning outcomes using pre- and post-program surveys. A dynamic dashboard then delivers insights across eight Positive Youth Development assets, helping organizations improve their programming and better serve young people.

Impact Capacity Assessment

The iCAT provides a 360-degree view of organizational health across eight key operational areas. Staff, board, and stakeholders complete a confidential online survey. Results produce a heatmap report with practical recommendations, helping organizations strengthen internal structures and plan for long-term sustainability

Capacity Building In Action: Real Impact

Visiting Nurse Association Community Services, Inc. (VNA)

The VNA Personal Navigator Program serves as a model of how capacity building and strategic grantmaking deliver measurable outcomes across all stages of PRCF’s Results Framework: connect, improve, and change.

In a recent grant cycle, 367 residents initially connected by receiving guidance on how to access over $5.3 million in public benefits, with 88% following up to receive direct services. A total of 930 participants improved their well-being by addressing urgent needs in healthcare access, food security, and financial stability.

Of those served, 94% gained better access to healthcare resources. Through the SOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery) component of the program, clients changed their long-term circumstances by securing stable income, insurance coverage, and housing. Overall, 93% of participants reported a better quality of life, and 85% experienced improved economic security.

This case demonstrates how targeted capacity-building support strengthens both service delivery and long-term community outcomes.

Why Capacity Building Matters

Nonprofit organizations are on the front lines of addressing economic equity, education equity, and health equity across our region. By strengthening these organizations from the inside out, PRCF ensures that investments in programs and services are sustainable, scalable, and effective over the long term.
